Not exactly. Imcivree is not the same as Wegovy or Zepbound, although these medications do have some similarities. Wegovy and Zepbound are approved for treating polygenic (general) obesity in certain adults and children. “Polygenic” obesity refers to obesity with multiple causative factors. Both medications are also used to treat certain other conditions. On the other hand, Imcivree is only approved for treating obesity related to certain genetic conditions in certain adults and children. It’s not clear. Clinical studies of Imcivree did not include people ages 65 years or older. This will help them know if Imcivree is right for you. In particular, make sure that you discuss any of the following. Adrenal Insufficiency. If you have acquired hypothalamic obesity and adrenal insufficiency you may be at higher risk of having acute adrenal insufficiency while using Imcivree. Tell your health care provider right away if you have fever, other signs of infection, or changes in how tired you feel, energy levels, mental function, or dizziness. Your health care provider may need to start or increase your steroid medicine dose while you are using Imcivree. Diabetes Insipidus. If you have acquired hypothalamic obesity and central diabetes insipidus you may be at higher risk of changes in your sodium blood levels while using Imcivree. Your health care provider may need to monitor your sodium levels more frequently, especially if you have changes in how much liquid you drink each day or your hydration status. Imcivree activates a specific receptor in the body called the melanocortin 4 (MC4) receptor, which is thought to decrease hunger and promote weight loss by decreasing the amount of calories eaten and increasing the amount of energy used by the body. This medicine is only for certain people with conditions where the MC4 receptor is not activated enough. You will likely have a genetic test to confirm that you may benefit from this medicine.

If you miss a dose of Imcivree, use your next dose at the regularly scheduled time the next day. Do not use double or extra doses.

While less common, the most serious side effects of Imcivree are described below, along with what to do if they happen. Severe Allergic Reactions. Imcivree may cause allergic reactions, which can be serious. Stop using Imcivree and get help right away if you have any of the following symptoms of a serious allergic reaction.

Unopened Imcivree should be stored in the original carton in the refrigerator, between 36 F and 46 F (2 C and 8 C). Unopened Imcivree may also be stored for up to 30 days at room temperature, between 36 F and 77 F (2 C and 25 C). It can be exposed to temperatures up to 86 F (30 C) for shorter periods of time, such as when transporting it.
