01What is oxytocin, and what is it used for?

Oxytocin used as medication is a synthetic form of the natural human hormone oxytocin produced by the hypothalamus region in the brain and secreted into the bloodstream by the pituitary gland. In the brain, oxytocin acts as a neurotransmitter and plays an important role in human behaviors including romantic attachment, sexual arousal, trust, mother-child and other relationship bonding.
