The V5-tag is a short peptide tag derived from the RNA polymerase alpha subunit of simian virus 5. V5 Tag is an affinity tag that for detection and purification of proteins. Recombinant proteins are usually expressed with affinity tag to allow their purification, conjugation by ELISA, flow cytometry, immunoprecipitation etc. Described in Hanke et al, Journal of General Virology 1992. This peptide is biotinylated at the N-terminus.
