Originally developed by Eli Lilly and later licensed to Johnson & Johnson (ALZA Corporation), dapoxetine received its first regulatory approval in Sweden in 2009 under the brand name Priligy, and has since been approved in over 50 countries across Europe, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East. It has not received FDA approval in the United States despite multiple submissions. Dapoxetine works by increasing serotonin activity at the postsynaptic cleft in the ejaculatory reflex pathway, raising the threshold for ejaculation and improving control over the timing of climax.
