Follistatin 344 follows multiple courses of action to trigger specific changes in the body. Myostatin ( 1 ), a growth and differentiation factor protein, is produced by myocytes (muscle cells). The primary function of myostatin is to act as a regulator by limiting the growth of muscles so that they don’t grow out of shape. Follistatin 344 acts as a myostatin inhibitor. This subsequent blocking of myostatin by follistatin 344 leads to the suppression of myostatin activity ( 2 ). Thus, myostatin can’t act as a potent negative regulator of muscle growth. Activin proteins enhance the secretion of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH).
